Top 20 UK waste companies highlighted by Catalyst in leading publication

Catalyst's article on the top players in the UK's waste industry has been featured in October's Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) magazine. The article can be downloaded in full below.

The article analyses the trends and prospects for mergers and acquisitions in the sector as well as Energy for Waste (EfW) project funding, and highlights three important developments in the waste industry:

  1. The recent announcement by Biffa, Sita and Shanks that they are developing small-scale energy recovery projects across the UK with technology developers Ros Roca, Cyclamax and Orgaworld respectively – a signal that the EfW market is gaining momentum
  2. The announcement of the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA) Private Finance Initiative worth an estimated £4.4 billion, which is expected to pave the way for a sting of new local authority waste programmes
  3. Confirmation from the Government that the landfill tax escalator will continue at £8 annually until 2013, which will help provide more certainty to the corporate business planning process and to investors in the industry
